Springtime House Cleaning, Since Spring is Here, Kinda…

One day the days will no longer be gray and those misty cold days will vanish, with the sunshine and green gracing us with their presence. There is no better time to get into deep cleaning projects around the house.

Opening up the windows invite the fresh air through the home. There is no reason why spring brings out the best in all of us. Let us help you make this the time of year to have a cleaner and fresher you.

Here is a list of 10 items you want to make sure you attack this spring for your Springtime house cleaning, as winter has been long and the cleaning is long overdue.

1. Kitchen Cupboards

Expired or outdated food, throw out and make more room to clean out the cupboards and wipe down inside and out.  Too many unused foods never did anyone any good, therefore thin out the clutter and stick to the staples.

2. Oven

Your oven will thank you if every 3 months you do a deep clean of your over.  Especially after a long winter, we’re sure your oven was put to good use. many ovens do have a self-cleaning feature, however, there are many less chemically and more natural ways to remove the grime and grease.

3. Refrigerator

The refrigerator should be cleaned regularly, but a deep clean is recommended about every three months.  Just like your oven, it should help your refrigerator run more efficiently.  When cleaning, you’ll have to remove all foods, so this will be a perfect time to throw away unused or expired items.

As you put food back in the refrigerator, you’ll be able to reorganize and put things where they belong, as opposed to just where it will fit.

4. Windows

Probably the most neglected thing in all of our houses.  Windows take a beating all year long, the sunshine, the rain, and the snow.  Fancy window cleaner is not always necessary either to achieve the results you’re looking for.

5. Closets

Worn out, outdated, and clothes that just don’t fit any longer shouldn’t make it through the end of your spring cleaning event. Perhaps you can locate organizations that could make use of the articles you’re looking to get rid of.

6. Kids’ Rooms

Organization, organization, organization is the key to getting your kids’ rooms under control.  You’ll find there to be trinkets from the stockings from last Christmas, not to mention remnants of New Years, Valentines Day, and Easter.

As you plummet through the endless piles of toys and clothes you’ll eventually find your way to the floor that you haven’t seen in months.

7. Bedding

Spring is a great time to fluff up and air out the bedding. Take stock of sheets, duvet covers, pillows, towels, and blankets. Replace or recycle where necessary.

January and February are the best time to find sales on linens,  towels, and bedding. Donate old bedding to animal shelters who usually take worn items for their animals.

8. Bathrooms

Spring cleaning is one of those events where you go a little deeper than normal.  There is no room more needy of this type of cleaning than the trusty bathroom.  We urge you to go as far as to replace your old mats,  rotate your shower curtain, remove less than half empty bottles of lotions, that’s only the tip of the iceberg.

9. Car

Probably the only part of spring cleaning we love personally.  To us, nothing says spring like a sudsy bucket of water, a new sponge, and clean shiny rims!!  Make sure to clear out all of the tiny wrappers and wipe out all the cup holders.  If your car is like mine and you have a car seat still installed, you better remove it to see what kind of treasures await.

10. Garage

If your garage is like mine, it’s the place where you store things for now, for later, and for some things, forever.  Depending on how much you have packed in there over the winter, cleaning out your garage will take a little planning.

We made this list based on some of the areas of concern we have in our own house, maybe your list is longer, or shorter of course.  We’ll definitely be rolling up our sleeves and getting the kids involved in our springtime deep housecleaning.
